Chnum Tempel, Esna

At midnight our ship finally left from Luxor on the first river cruise. Since it was night, we all slept through most of the trip. We docked at Esna, where we walked to our next excursion, the Chnum Tempel. We walked through one of the standard bazaars and, as usual, we were pestered by the many traders trying to sell us their wares.

The tempel itself lies about 9 meters below the level of the city. It had been "buried" and the city simply built on top of it.

As with all the tempels, all the walls, ceilings, and columns were covered with hieroglyphen and drawings....
