Side Trips

January 8 - 15, 2008

Not only tempels were on our schedule... we also enjoyed some interesting small side trips.

On Wednesday, Jan. 9, some of us signed up for a city "orientation" trip with Light show at Karnak after sunset. Obviously I have no pictures of the light show, which wasn't really that good, and only a few of the Egyptian farm house we were able to visit. It was actually a "tourist trap" but interesting all the same.

Wednesday we got up early to drive over to West Theben to visit the Valley of the Kings and Hatschepsut's tempel. Besides the hot air balloons already mentioned on the other page, we enjoyed some of the lvaried andscape. On the return trip we passed by the Ramesseum and stopped by two remaining Memnon statues.

The ever present traders, trying to sell their wares to us. They were really a pest!

On the way back from visiting the Luxor tempel, we stopped by a papyrus shop. Here we had a demonstration showing how papyrus was made ... it was very interesting. We then could shop around for our own papyrus picture. They had a large selection in all different sizes. I picked one with Hatschepsut.... it now hangs framed in my living room!

On Saturday, Jan. 12, we had a tour of Assuan city, then stopped by a perfumerie where we could sample original essences used inthe making of world famous perfumes. We also saw a demonstration of glass blowing.
